Features and Enhancements

Check out some of the numerous features and enhancements in CAMWorks 2005.

Mill-Turn (Live-C) Machining

*  The Mill-Turn module uses the existing Mill and Turn feature definition and includes a new interactively defined Wrapped Feature for C-axis milling. Machining cycles are supported for C, Y and B axis machining at compound angles and on the face, ID and OD of a part.

Usability & Interface Enhancements


*  For 4th and 5th axis indexing machines, the Mill setup axis display can include the
    4th or 5th axis angle value.
*  Expanded Rebuild function includes a choice of full or light rebuild and an option to
    disable the prompt for a rebuild on file open, even if the model has changed.
*  Drag and drop copy Mill operations, features, and contain/avoid areas in the
    Operation tree.
*  A wireframe representation of the tool can be displayed during Step Thru Toolpath
    for Mill and Turn.
*  The method for defining points from sketches has been enhanced. In addition to
    defining a point at a point entity or from the center of an arc or circle, you can
    graphically select point entities and the end point of a line entity from a 2D or 3D
    sketch.
*  Lollipop style milling cutters that can be used for machining and simulation are
    supported.

2½ Axis Milling


*  A new Pattern Feature simplifies the creation of multiple features by allowing you
    to define one feature and array it to other positions using various pattern methods.
    The toolpath is generated only for the seed feature and then copied to each
    instance in the pattern.

*  When using the Length and angle option to define an entry point in Rough Mill
    operations, an option can be selected to automatically modify the entry point if it
    would gouge the features.
*  An additional ramping option is provided in Rough Mill operations so that the tool
    will ramp back and forth on the leadin move only.
*  Chamfer milling is supported for Finish Mill operations to machine a chamfer or
    edge break using a tapered end mill, countersink or center drill tool.
*  A safe Z retract position between each cut level within a feature can be computed
    automatically for Rough and Finish Mill operations.
*  When Start-point is selected to set the leadin location for a Finish Mill operation,
    an offset distance can be specified from the start of an entity.
*  Countersink tools can be defined with a flat end.

Advanced 3 Axis Milling


*  For Advanced 3 Axis Pattern Project operations, the stepover can be set based on the theoretical scallop or as a percentage of the tool diameter.
*  For Advanced 3 Axis operations, the Start hint option can influence the XY entry position of the tool.

Turning


*  Mill tools can be assigned to Turn Drill and Centerdrill operations.
*  The Attributes assigned to each feature display next to the feature name in the
    tree.

Technology Database


*  Countersink tools can be defined with a flat end.
*  For Finish Mill leadin, the default location can be set to Mid-point or Start-point.
*  Hole Thread Mapping can consider the stock material in the automatic assignment
    of a tapping or threading sequence.

Simulation


*  Option to stop the simulation and display notification when the tool/insert collides with the stock or fixture during rapid motion.
*  Extended zoom in Turbo mode generates a clearer image of user specified regions of interest on the stock model.
*  The simulation color per operation can be modified.
*  When Show Fixture Collision is selected in Tool mode, if there is a rapid motion between two operations of the same tool that interferes with a fixture, simulation automatically shows material being removed from the fixture.
*  In Tool mode for Mill or Turning, the Tool/insert color automatically changes to match the color of the rapid move.

Wire EDM


*  Glue stop knockout option to only partially cut the glue stop.
*  Option to thread the wire at an angle for 4 Axis features.
*  More control over the leadin when the Perpendicular to closest option is used.
*  A new Pattern Feature simplifies the creation of multiple features by allowing you to
    define one feature and array it to other positions using various pattern methods. The
    toolpath is generated only for the seed feature and then copied to each instance in
    the pattern.
*  Post process from a single EDM operation or from a Part Setup as well as from the NC *  Manager on the Operation tree.
*  Managing information in the Cutting Conditions database has been simplified.
*  Option to begin all cuts at start hole.
